Gerry Gutierrez' Update
News from the Andes Mountains of Peru. 98 …98…98…..99!!!!
My dear Son Ben told me the story of a man walking down the road one morning when he heard on the other side of a big door someone saying again and again 98, 98, …98…98… Curiosity got the best of him when he found a small hole to take a peek at the man on the other side. Just then a finger poked his eyes through the hole as the man on the other side said laughingly… 99…99…99 …
So far 98 people have been killed to date under the present regime here in Peru according to my sources. Today we may make it to 100. As I was having a cup of coffee, I saw a big Group of people coming down the hill, screaming against the government who in turn does not hesitate to use deadly force when opposed.
Yesterday, while I was in dialysis, the minister of health came to Ayacucho. She was received with a shower of stones, eggs and tomatoes and drive back to her plane.
From my part I do not believe in purgatory, but I have been there several times lately. I may sound like Charles Krouthammer who said, “I don’t believe in God, but I’m scared to death to meet him.” I believe in God and I’m looking forward to meet him but not in anybody’s time, not even my time, but his time.
If I have fallen from the frying pan into the fire, it is a valid description of my present situation.
Peru is considered a country where the most people were killed by Covid 19, The name of this town is Ayacucho. Which means the corner of the dead.
A famous soccer player wanted to change the name of the city but he did not succeed and it is still the corner of the dead.
By now you may realize that I need prayer urgently. A Pastor came to me and said, “This past month I have been plagued by toothaches, headaches, discouragements and weariness so that I did not know what to do. But ever since you arrived my pain is gone as by a miracle.” “I believe you are a man of God.” “I plan to stay near you until you tell me to leave.” Your guess is as good as mine. (Light prevails in the darkness). I will enjoy the ride while it lasts.
Every other day I travel a long distance in search of a dialysis machine in a hospital and it has become very discouraging to say the least.
Please pray that a dialysis machine out of the many from this town may be installed in my hometown hospital. It is very discouraging to get off of a dialysis machine after four or five hours and waiting a few more hours and then going back home again on a road with over thirty speed bumps and potholes passing through a high point that gives you altitude sickness.
There’s nothing we did not solve through prayers in the past, so I’m asking your prayers for stamina and wisdom from above to endure by God’s grace, my lot in life.
Gerry Gutierrez.
PS. A police was killed this morning.
