Gerry Gutierrez' Update

To the little one within you.

“Jesus and little children.”

To follow Jesus is as easy and as fun so that even little children can do it.

It is as easy as saying “yes” which was the first word we remember learning of Adam and Eve back in the garden when men’s vocabulary could be counted in one hand. “Yes, Abba Father in the Garden.” Or “Yes, our Father who art in Heaven.” “Yes Abba '' was the only prayer worth God’s ears.

Back when God’s name was truly “Sanctified.”  Back when there was no want or need but for the convenient will of God.  Back in those barefoot days when men’s will and God’s will were one and the same thing. Back before Sandals were given to Men made by Jesus. Yes, back before thorns and briers started to multiply on the ground. Back when it was sweet to know only the counsel of God in one clear prohibition before men learned to say “ouch” on their own.

Back in the days when “home schooling started” at the cool of the day. Back in the days where my birthday suit was an adequate uniform. Back when life was sweet before men learn to say yes to whom he should have said no. Back in those days where men and women were students, Jesus was the teacher.

Oh how simple it was, life as simple as saying “yes” Jesus, “yes” dear Lord, “yes” any time.

When I was a little boy, my friend would come knocking at my door at any time and say, “would you like to go fishing?” My answer was action and we would go to the River to catch fish. Another day Cesar would come to ask me to go hunting pigeons and then we went for pigeons. Another day I would whistle at Cesar and say, “let’s play soccer” and others would join us and we would play soccer until hunger and thirst would drive us back home.

Other times I asked Cesar, “Do you want to go for oranges to my uncle’s orchard? Yes, he would promptly say and we would take off and come back hours later with sugar cane, oranges, grapes and plenty of Quincy and fresh corn.

Hey let’s make a kite for it is going to be windy this afternoon. Great he would say and we made kites of all kinds and sizes.

One thing that little kids have in common is that they do not have an agenda of their own and are always ready to have fun. They don’t have planned a life with others, they go with the flow and they have good times together. They laugh a lot and giggle and sometimes they fight, they cry a little but after few minutes they do not remember any negative experience let alone the next day we get together as if nothing happened.

Who can be like a child? Only those who in humility do not take themselves so seriously by not believing their own press release?

My friend Cesar and I had one thing in common, we were fatherless, so it was easy for us to be free and to enjoy life without anyone looking over our shoulders. However, we had some loving grandmothers who pray for us so that we did not miss our fathers. I never thought that I would come to the day when I would say, “what a blessing it was not to have a father but God himself was my father in heaven who taught me to say yes to his will.

Everybody grows old, that's the law of life but the challenge is being an adult person and to grow younger and younger until childhood not childishness.

Jesus says unless you become like one of those little ones you’ll never see the kingdom of God. Jesus also said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me,” Matthew 18:3-5.

At 75 I can dare to say things that I would have not been there to say when I was younger and that is that “Jesus is the son of God.” Jesus is the little kid of God. Jesus has the heart of a child like that of his father. The father loves his son in a childlike manner. Jesus wants us to be like him humble and meek of heart and we’ll find rest and enjoy life more to its fullness.

I’m a businessman from Jesus. I’m selling a few principles that can change the life of a person forever and ever such as to have faith in Jesus is to take Jesus at his word.” I believe in lifting Jesus in the conviction that it is Jesus who will draw men unto himself.”  I believe in the revolutionary principle of a small core group like Jesus with Peter, James and John is the revolutionary principle that Jesus brought to change the world.

According to Jesus, a child is able to see the kingdom of God and all those who do not have a childlike heart will never see the kingdom of God. You have to be able to see the kingdom of God in order to be excited about entering into it.

Adults don’t get excited about heaven because they cannot see the kingdom of God nor can they long to go home the sooner the better. A man must learn from the heart to say boldly and triumphantly that “Death is gain.” Jesus blessed the little children with great delight. I too go around blessing little children literally around the world. I love little children,
