Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Do not let the disguise fool you.
Blessings in disguise.
Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, sure enough, they got worse. I have tested positive for Covid-19.
Last night on his way home from church Nathaniel called me from the hallway of my apartment and asks to enter into my room and close the door so he can come in briefly to leave my mail and then be on his way home to pack and go to camp far away for a few days with over 125 young people.
Broken hearted, I said: “I am not a leper.” To which he replied: “But I am a pastor and I could contaminate many innocent people.” Well, He is right!!
Before this father was able to say, “Why have you forsaken me my son? I heard a knock at the thick glass window of my room signaling me to pick up my phone to talk. Now I know how inmates feel when they have visitations.
I should have known this was coming when my last dialysis was in a glass room with no one besides me. I should have known that was coming when my own doctor did not want to see me but virtually. Restaurants deny service to those who know they have tested positive.
Where is the blessing in disguise? Just like the rain falls over the wicked and the righteous, so are trials come down over the good and the evil in order to testify by our reaction.
Many people are going through the same tribulations and like fish gulping for air they are seeking for advice. God has placed us among their number to encourage them with the same encouragement that we have been encouraged. This is the time to show one another where our confidence rests.
As for me I am like an old worn out tire in its last treads but testifying from weakness. Please pray for some brain fog that has visited me twice lately. The greater blessing in disguise for the servants of God in long agonies before death is that God opens their eyes to see angels in disguise around every corner with great and small things so that there is no way to explain apart from God ordering his angels to already start serving you here on earth.
The beauty of it all is that in the same painful moaning and groaning of sickness and old age there is a secret joy waiting to burst out loud in praises to our God. Long agonies are the finishing school of God so you will not be shocked when in heaven you will be served by real angels no longer in disguise.
I feel like shouting Hooray!!! Yeah Jesus!
