Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Nothing above or beyond.
This verse is a pearl of Great price.
Unless you are by nature and vocation a lover of your father and a lover of your son this verse will not mean much to you, It is as useless as the shell of an empty oyster.
The political concept of a Prince sitting next to the King Securing Perpetuity for the generations to come has stolen the beauty and the wealth of this verse.
In the first place the mighty God, the everlasting father, the prince of peace is one and the same thing and there is no succession to the throne or not to the next administrations set by time by elections. Jesus is not one trying to impress anyone by sitting next to God. Jesus loves to be together with God. This verse is not talking about succession of the father by the son,
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” Colossians 3:1.
I love God in Jesus. I love my family and my extended family in Jesus. The show and tell of God being Love is by their longing for fellowship with one another.
The key question is: “What is it to seek the things that are above? Certainly not a warehouse of toys of the wealthiest son of the great God. It defies the imagination even using the verse from scripture, “In the house of the Righteous there are many treasures.” Know my dear brothers and sisters that to seek the things above is to seek Jesus in sweet fellowship and oneness with his father.
To long to be one with God in Jesus is the greatest prayer that even Jesus himself asked the father in John 17. Those who love by nature and by vocation both their parents and their children will find this verse very easy to understand that it is indeed the fellowship of the Saints that is our inheritance on this earth and the supreme inheritance is fellowship with God and Jesus in heaven. If Jesus is not in Heaven, why would I want to go there?
