“The secret power of mentoring.”

All of my life I have tried to find a friend or two to agree together and have all things prayer away.

The clear conditions of Jesus for an answer to prayer is the agreement of two or three in Jesus.

To me faith is taking Jesus at his word. To me prayer is agreement with God in Jesus.

To me praying is to say Yes to Jesus. To me mentoring is a fellowship of two or three is a two-way street.

No matter how insignificant a person might be and how mean their occupation is, there is always something I can learn from that person and in that sense, he is superior to me. God’s word says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. But made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Since all human beings are limited by mortality, that makes them by nature incomplete and lacking so he or she might depend on the collectivity of the body. There are two key words that might help us to understand the mind of God when he designed men as needy as he is. God created man endowed with an inheritance from the beginning and that would be the “fellowship of the saints on this earth and this life.”

“The wealth of a man is a number of his true friends. If you have friends, you have something if you don’t have friends, you have nothing” The church is the place where the fellowship of the saints is to be splurged and I spend as if there was no tomorrow. Because in heaven we will have plenty of fellowship and rest so we don’t need to take anything or anyone. Once we enter the pearly gates the full fellowship with God himself will fill all in all. For the believer it is true that death is gain in full completeness and satisfaction.

Until then, let iron sharpen iron, as one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17.

Resistance provokes friction and friction is what sharpens as iron sharpens iron.

In mentoring this is the law of the land, no one is chief but all are Indians first of all.

God has given to us the task of mentoring each other, helping each other and loving each other, being gracious to one another, generous to one another with a great opportunity to serve because Jesus himself came into the world as the one who serves not as one to be served. Though he served, he was not the servant of anyone but his Father in Heaven. Neither are you but of God our Father and Lord.

Let’s use some illustrations of the tepee making that is the tent of the American Indians. The posts lean on one another in order to support the weight of the canvas on top of the posts. The posts lean on each other to pass the center of gravity. They cannot fall while they lean on each other.  Should one move away by separation, they will fall to the ground for lack of support. They are meant to lean on one another as believers are to remain in love together. The Old lesson to depend from God alone is the most difficult lesson to master by the believer. The desire to be independent is the Great GrandFather of all sin. Because sins properly defined is the independence from God.  How could you say to depend upon God to whom you have not seen, when you do not depend upon those whom he has sent for you to be interdependent.

PS. The greatest man who mentored the most powerful men on our planet since President Eisenhower all the way to President Trump became my mentor for 30 years. When I introduced him to others as my mentor, he said, no, you are my mentor. I did not take his words verbatim but later I discovered some elements of truth in his words. There are Chiefs and Indians, but both are Indians above all. Now I am in the position to say the same thing about my son who is younger than me but he has become my mentor. Mentoring is a two-way street.  It’s not leaning on one person or a person leaning on another person, but it is leaning into each other past the center of gravity so that should either one move away from the other, both will fall on the ground in uselessness. The best part of mentoring is that one is for the other and both are for Jesus.
