Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Halacunca.
I only have one soul. My soul is always thirsting after God. I go to church in the hope to hear the voice of God and not only to hear about him.
The headwaters of the Amazon River start at the glaciers of my hometown. The melting snow slowly but surely becomes the largest river in the World, which is the Amazon. Nothing can keep that River from reaching its destiny which is the great Atlantic Ocean.
In the same way, no matter from where in scripture a preacher speaks, unless he is heading towards Jesus, he has no message. I love preachers who labor over their messages.
I remember my rooster “Halacunca” which was a tall “teenager rooster” without feathers on the neck so that it looked more like a butcher than a rooster. In order to impress the young chickens on the farm, Halacunca would flap his wings vigorously and try to crow as an adult rooster but in the process his crowing was more like the breaking of a string on a violin. If I were him, I would have blushed at the thought of the young chickens laughing at him.
What is amazing is that the broken crowing was a sign that there was full grown crowing somewhere in the future of “Halacunca.”
As a free-range rooster, tall Halacunca would eat a lot of juice crickets and was a fast feeder of grain when my grandma fed the chickens at feeding time.
On the other hand, “Machugallo,” the old stallion rooster on the farm, was aging so fast that the hens of the farm were keeping an eye on Halacunca as a possible son in law.
I suppose it is true that in the Land of the blind the crooked eye is king. Or as they say, for the hungry there is no one-day-old bread. Upps, before I get sidetracked, I better go back to our subject.
I only have one soul and I am very careful not to trust my soul to any available Halacunca. No matter from where anyone preaches, he must be Christ centered in preaching or he will end up in an acentric ministry.
Dear Halacuncas of the world, I can only trust my one and only soul to the voice of Jesus and him alone. Preach Jesus until you sound like him. The beauty of heaven is that I will be able to hear the voice of Jesus, as in Adam, I used to hear him at the cool of the day before the fall.
As someone said, with saints in heaven that will be glory, but with the Saints on earth that is another story.”
