Gerry Gutierrez' Update

Love is thicker than blood.

“Love is thicker than blood.”

“The criteria of truth.”

When is something true?

In philosophy there is a discipline called “Epistemology”.

Epistemology is the study of knowledge: What we know, How we know it, How we know we know it, and How to keep track of it without driving ourselves crazy.

In other words, “We are talking about the criteria of Truth.” That is to say, “What is the authority of what we believe?” Under what authority are we speaking?

The answer to this question is important in order to separate opinion from facts.

Opinions do not rule the universe but facts do. Otherwise, we would have as many truths as people in the universe.

In this world of ours, we humans are pretty much of the same height and the only way to see farther than the other person is by climbing on the shoulders of others to be able to reveal what others cannot see. The only one taller than any man is Jesus. That is because he was more than just a man; but “Emmanuel” that is God with us.

Among humans we are only able to see the back of the neck of the ones that are in front of us who have come into the world a little ahead of time than us.

As tall as the one in front of us is, you better pray that he is not only ahead of you but he has eyes to see and ears to hear. Otherwise, you will be a blind person following a blind person and doomed to fall into the same pit.

Another word of caution is that if the truth has become a concept to be mastered it will not be of any use to you because a concept cannot get you out of a slimy pit. Thank God that for the believer the truth is a person and that person is Jesus who said, “I am the truth.”

Jesus is the person who is able to come down to the slimy pit and bring you out in power and set your feet on a rock. He establishs your goings not by issuing a warning not to ever fall again but by walking alongside you and always with you to the end of the ages and beyond.

Therefore, in order for a man to have authority and speak with authority he must himself be under authority. All power and authority does not have its residence in the Library of Congress, or the Capitol Hill, or the White House, or the Pentagon, but in the person of Jesus who sovereignly commissions men by revelation of his will so that men are not ruled by opinions but by facts.

The charge of Jesus to his followers in the Great Commission is not a matter of propagating information or instructions but it is a matter of “Obedience” to that which he has already spoken.

Jesus said, “Teach them to obey everything I have told you.”

That is why Jesus said something very radical in Luke 8:20 -21.

“Someone told him your mother and your brothers are outside standing waiting to see you. He replyed, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear God’s word and put them into practice.” In another word; “Obey.”

Low and behold this is an example that Love is thicker than blood for Jesus.

To be in blood relationship with someone is not as great as being spiritually related in Jesus with one who is a perfect stranger.

No one who is true to himself can deny that there are relationships in Jesus that are deeper than being born from the same womb.

Look at the example of Esau and Jacob the twins of Isaac. God says, “I love Jacob but I hate Esau.” Jacob the cheater needed God and always pursued blessings until he had a stroke in his side. “What a blessing.”

Esau did not need God because he saw himself as the only inheritor of his father’s wealth. God loves those who need him.

Herod was a descendant of Esau and tried to kill Jesus who was the descendant of Jacob. David and Jonathan were not brothers but they love each other as brothers proving that love is thicker than blood.

Your obedience to Jesus is your true love for Jesus.

When you teach others to love Jesus, you love Jesus twice.

I am against Bible studies if one does not study with the intention to obey

This was the kid brother of Jesus on duty.
