Gerry Gutierrez' Update

Let us have a cup of coffee # 3.

Let us have a cup of coffee #3.

Love the Lord.”

The word “Love” is in the non-negotiable imperative form of the verb.

The Emperor of the universe demands Love and reverend fear.

Somewhere along the way as ministers counted their horses and chariots they found their numbers decreasing instead of increasing.  So, they thought it wise to present God as one begging men to accept God in their lives.

As innocent and well intentioned was their appeal, something tragic happened.

The sons of Eve followed the example of mother Eve apologizing for God and defending God before Satan the accuser of what God did not say; “You shall eat any of the fruits of the Garden, all except the forbidden fruit. That fruit we should not even touch.”

When you start defending God before an unbeliever you shall not convince them, let alone convict them. The greatest harm in defending God is that you no longer present God as the sovereign Emperor of the universe, but as a weak old man in need of compassion and pity rather than the king who has the right to demand love, submission and obedience.

Thus, conversion becomes more of one doing God a favor and not the other way around. Prayer becomes the reflection of this way of thinking whereby God is there as a waiter to take orders for our desires rather than the one before whom I bow down with my knees on the ground and with my eyes on the signs on his feet and hands imparting the orders “to do or die.”

The one heritage of the reformed faith was to rescue the “Sovereignty of God as the Lord of all.” Preach the sovereign God or you and your message will be thrown away as the baby with the bath water. “Love the Lord.”

This was the gentle reminder on duty.
