Prayer kills selfishness
Prayer is designed to kill the worship of me, myself, and I.
We must come as soon as we possibly can to the point of being unable to pray without including others in our prayer. How ridiculous sounds the prayer, “My Father in Heaven,” “Give me my daily bread,” “Forgive me,” “lead me not,” “deliver me,” “I am your…” etc. The Kingdom of God has come, is here, and will fully come not for “me, myself, and I” but for “us,” the members of God’s household who pray, “Our Father in Heaven,” those who lift high the name of God, and who desire the Kingdom of God above any other kingdom, and who agree in unison with the will of God on earth as it is done in Heaven. The prayer of Our Father in Heaven is designed to kill selfishness. It is designed to make us like God himself. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.” God’s love is a self-given love. He loved us as he loved himself. Prayer alone will help you digest that which you already know from the Word. When we only pray for self, health will not visit the whole body and life will not reign in our mortal bodies. This, then, is how you should pray, “OUR Father who art in Heaven.” This is the teaching elder on duty in matters of Prayer. Gerry Gutierrez.
