Short articles of the, "Yes Jesus" Book on prayer. # 23
The Lord’s Prayer is his prayer as well as our prayer
The key word, ‘our,’ in the Lord’s Prayer needs to be understood as including Jesus himself as part of the ‘our’ by virtue of the fact that Jesus is the head of the body of which we believers are members. It is of the utmost necessity to weld in oneness Jesus and us in the words “our Father in heaven.” It was Jesus’ intention for us to know and to believe that we relate to God not as the pen in my hand is mine, but as my hand is mine. It is impossible for the Lord’s Prayer to be different and other than what he taught to his disciples. Prayer is the will of the one who prays. There is only one will that rules in Heaven and our prayer is to see the same will ruling on earth. The introduction of another will, different from the will of God, brought down hell and its inhabitants. The Lord’s Prayer is the will of God for Heaven and earth. There is no room for another will. Other wills must be obliterated completely. Again and again we must come to the same conclusion as to what prayer is. It is to agree with God. It is to surrender to his will and to have no other will. It is unity thinking, intercession, predisposition, want, desire, action, direction, speed and goal. Prayer is death to self and alive to God in Christ. It is to say that I no longer live but Jesus lives in me. A prayer meeting is the fellowship of people dead to the world but alive in Jesus Christ alone. Prayer is the language of the Kingdom. Jesus is the word of that kingdom. This is the teaching elder on duty in matters of Prayer. Gerry Gutierrez.
