Repeat after Jesus

“Our Father who art in Heaven”

 

A reverent, orderly, and slow-paced reading of the opening words of the Lord’s Prayer will lead to the foundational truth that what we have in Heaven is NOT:

 

A friendly Being called ‘God’

Or an impersonal God

Or merely an omnipotent Creator

Or just a giver of life

Or an unknown God

 

But what we have in Heaven is a Father, our true and only Father who prohibits us to call anyone Father on earth. He is a Father whose dwelling place is Heaven where I also belong because of Jesus who prepares a mansion for me. 

 

The worthless ways we have treated each other have engraved in our hearts and minds a feeling that has become a conviction, a conviction that we could not be, by any stretch of our imagination, worthy of God’s love and care, let alone be called his children.

 

But Jesus who does not lie has declared that God is our Father who art in Heaven. That is why we are his children to the glory and praise of God.
