THE LANGUAGE OF THE LORD’S PRAYER

What it is not:

Our Father in Heaven – It is not that we are adopting God.

Hallowed be Thy name – It is not discovering what God is.

Thy Kingdom come – It is not giving permission to God to come.

Thy will be done – It is not approving God’s will above others.

On earth as it is in Heaven – It is not that we know what is best for us.

Give us this day our daily bread – It is not that He does not know what we need.

Forgive us our sins – It is not we who sought and found forgiveness.

As we forgive others – It is not we, but God in us, who forgives.

Lead us not into temptation – It is not we holding Him, but He holding us.

Deliver us from the evil one – It is not we who save ourselves, but God.

 

For the sake of Jesus – It is not whom God loves, but His one and only Son.

For yours is the Kingdom – It is His Kingdom to come, not ours.

And the power – There is not any power in us, save for the power to do evil.

And the glory – We can boast of nothing. Salvation is of the Lord.

Amen – It is not accepting and approving what God does at all.

 

What it is: 

Our Father in Heaven – it is all about God and Heaven and adoption.

Hallowed be Thy name – It is about who He is according to His revelation.

Your Kingdom come – It is about what God is doing, and our joining with Him in that.

Your will be done – It is He alone who IS and there is no other.

On earth as it is in Heaven – For earth is a grain of dust in God’s Kingdom.

Give us this day our daily bread – It’s a father’s pleasure to provide. 

Forgive us our sins – It is necessary to be pure, and only Jesus can purify.

As we forgive others – What the head does the body must do with their members.

Lead us not into temptation – It is He who leads but does not tempt. 

But deliver us from the evil one – It is doing away with His enemy and ours. 

 

This is the teaching elder on duty in matters of Prayer.
