Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Short articles of the, "Yes Jesus" Book on prayer. # 52
Jesus said, “This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father who art in Heaven”
Two or three may butt their heads on the way home, but in the presence of the father, only what they have agreed on will give them the power to say: “Our Father in Heaven.” If agreement is not the trademark of prayer of the brethren, prayer will be an abomination, more of a disgrace than a blessing. Prayer without an answer is the most effective way to promote doubt and discouragement. The prayers that are spoken outside the will of God effectively kill the very little faith that one has. Examine, then, carefully, individually and collectively, what you are about to ask of God. Go before God, having agreed and say: “Our Father who art in Heaven.” Solomon says: Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help him up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Though Solomon speaks of two, he ends up speaking of a cord of three strands as being stronger than two. I would like to think that the third strand is Jesus, with whom we need to agree, if we want to pray anything according to God’s will. Just as much as the fourth person in the oven with Daniel’s friends was Jesus, who has promised to be with us to the very end of the ages. # 52.
This is the teaching elder on duty in matters of Prayer.
