Gerry Gutierrez' Update
For the sons and daughters of Eve only.
Understanding the Planet Earth in 2020.
If you ever find things too hard to understand in our present world, it is wise to go back to the bedrock of Genesis, which is the book of the “Beginnings.”
The desire to control one’s own life and the life of others plus the control of circumstances is as old as walking on foot.
Once upon a time, Eve who had it all, including Paradise went window-shopping in the Garden of Eden to just look around the forbidden fruit. Looking is not a crime, as we used to say in our University years, “It is not a felony to look even to the daughter of the Pharaoh of Egypt.”
But the deadly combination of looking and listening to strangers produces doubts of what once was your beloved World View.
World View is the backbone of what you say you believe. Who made you? Who are you? Where are you coming from? What are you doing here? Where are you going? Why are you created? God in Jesus is the way, the truth, the life. He is the answer to all things even before the fall.
Unhappy Satan, the disgraced enemy of God, is the father of lies who came to tempt Eve with the same temptation that he was tempted with and fell from grace. “THE DESIRE TO BE LIKE GOD” and the unquenchable thirst for power, “TO CONTROL” is his own destiny and that of others.
Apart from God and Genesis, man will try in vain to understand God, himself, others and his circumstances.
Let us admit for our own sake that our present situation is the consequence of having forgotten God as creator and Lord of our lives.
Let us accept our responsibility to repent for having heard voices other than God’s voice. We will find out that the social issues are not racial issues not even economic issues but are matters of pride. All men and women are under the same curse as Adam and Eve wanting to be like God in control of self, others and circumstances.
No one wants to stand down. Everyone in conflict is struggling for high ground to have advantage over others.
The mental transaction of the sons and daughters of Eve are the same. She was convinced of her rights by Satan and in her pursuit of happiness she forgot the right of God. “I want to know evil and good like God”. “I have an inquiring mind and an inquiring mind needs to know”. “I have my rights.” “I did not ask to be created.” “I do not appreciate being kept in the dark.” “I should do with my life what I want. I am a pro-choice.” “I do not care about the consequences but I must have the fruit”.
Speaking with a stranger had devastating consequences. Doubting God is the unforgivable sin. What is worse it was not her needs that made her fall in sin but her selfish wants.
Let us be colorblind for a moment and we will not fail to see that it is not a matter of color but of heart attitude, an act of rebellion and disobedience to the will of God the essence of our present problems.
Our problem is not with one another but with God. The present circumstances are the reflection of our conflict with God. The fire is not in our neighbor’s house but in our own house.
Since the problem of the sons and daughters of Eve is the same since Genesis all the way to Revelation, the solution is also the same.
John the Baptist said “Repent.” Jesus said “Repent.” All the Saints ever since preached the “Gospel of repentance for the forgiveness of sin.”
The Pragmatic mind of our time that goes after instant solutions, counsels otherwise, but pragmatism is a broad road that lead to distraction.
Unless we repent and take the narrow road of Faith and Prayer according to the Word and Will of God, we also are doom to fail.
The sons and daughters of Adam and Eve are skillful in the art of blaming one another and refusing to accept responsibility. Everyone is wise in his own eyes. We are in need to shun evil from our minds and hearts.
You might have already found an excuse to justify your acts of disobedience, just remember that it did not work for our first parents and it will not work for us. Only true repentance works every time as it did for the thief on the cross as well as for Saul of Tarsus and for me a sinner as his witness.
“If my people humble themselves, repent and pray then I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
