“This, then is how you should pray”

“Our Father who art in Heaven” # 13

Two or three may butt their heads on the way home. But in the presence of the father only what they have agreed to will give them the power to say: “Our Father who art in Heaven.”

If agreement is not the trademark of the prayer of the brethren, then prayer will be an abomination, more a disgrace than a blessing. A prayer without an answer is the most effective way to promote doubt and discouragement. The prayers that are spoken outside the will of God will effectively kill the very little faith that one has.

Then carefully examine individually and collectively what you are about to ask of God. Go before God having agreed and say: “Our Father in Heaven.”

Solomon talks about:

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help him or her up.

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.
But how can one keep warm alone?
Though one may be overpowered,
   two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Though Solomon speaks of two, he ends up speaking of a cord of three strands as being stronger than two. I would like to think the third strand being Jesus with whose mind we need to agree if we want to pray according to God's will.

Just as much is the fourth person in the oven on Daniel’s account was Jesus. He has promised to be always with us to the very end of the ages.

This, then, is how you should pray. “Our Father who art in Heaven.”
