Short articles of the "YES JESUS" on prayer # 12
Jesus said: “This, then, is how you should pray” “Our Father in Heaven” # 12
If a son asks a father something, saying “My father,” he alone will be the recipient of the answer to his prayers. It's been recorded that sons have competed with their brothers for advantage of one over the other.
Cain murdered Abel as a result of one, that is Abel, being accepted by God and the other rejected. God’s will divides people and makes true friends and true enemies.
The civil rivalry between brothers is as old as walking on foot. The descendants of Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac, (the Ishmaelites Arabs) and (the Israelites Jews) are true enemies to this day. Then the descendants of Isaac, Esau and Jacob, then Herod seeking to kill Jesus as his enemy (Being Herod the Edomite the descendant of Esau and Jesus of Nazareth the descendant of Jacob).
Our Lord’s Prayer in John chapter seventeen is designed for unity among believers in order to do away with the competition among brothers to gain advantage of one over the other. When believers compete, there is no spiritual growth.
Jesus wants His disciples to come to God in prayer at least in groups of two or three or more having first reached agreement in what they would ask of God according to his word and will. Also having renounced their own will and to pray on God’s terms and conditions: “Our Father who art in Heaven.” “Our” not “My father.” Basically, prayer promotes unity and Sweet fellowship pleasing to God.
This fellowship of love is the only way for believers to be known as disciples of Jesus. “By your love for one another they will know that you are my disciples” This is to say, that we will be known as a community of believers who have renounced their will, died to self and pray and live in discipline according to God's will.
Our shortest testimony is to say together: “Our Father who art in Heaven.”
