Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Writing and speaking as if there was no tomorrow.
“Interpreting the pandemic.”
When drought came over the land, there was no doubt in my grandfather’s mind that this was an act of God pulling on the ears of his disobedient children.
Grandma agreed with grandpa in that it was indeed an act of God, but she disagreed in disciplining by pulling the ears.
“If you must discipline a child do so by using the whip in the name of the Father, in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Spirit, three times as the board of education on the seat of learning.”
“Do not pull on the ear of a child that even God had difficulty placing on the side of the head because as a shape the ear made out of mud might come unglued and fall to the ground.” “If you do not believe that look how wrinkled up are your ears.” And with a smile she would rest her case.
One thing on which my grandparents would agree whole-heartedly was on the need to pray.
Somehow there was a sense of unworthiness on their part so that they would summon all the little children and ask us to pray out loud, “Lord have mercy on us.” We would say it again and again until they sensed that we were losing our voices. I’ll never forget the good feeling of being asked to pray or being found worthy to pray.
When rain finally came down, all I remember was my grandma coming out to the patio and lifting both of her hands in a sign of praise and thanksgiving. I was just a little older than a toddler playing making crosses from bamboo and little trucks from mud.
If I was not an ordained ministry of the Saint Louis Presbytery of Missouri, I would take advantage of this opportunity to include a commercial like the verse “Train up a child in the way he should go so when he’s old he will not depart from it.” Oupps! I did it anyway. Well...”
I am not going to ask you uncomfortable questions such as, “Have you summoned your children and grandchildren and the little kids of your church or Neighborhood?” Do you share the ways of God with your children or are you protecting them from the crude truth?
No, I am not going to do that either because I am already in the eyes of some, “A Radioactive person” due to my focus in prayer like a one string Banjo player. But I am going to tell you that though physically I seem to be coming apart, my secret prayer with my grandson Simeon is that the Lord might return soon before we close our eyes. Simeon and I are in agreement to ask the Lord to come back while we are fishing at the sea shore so we can have a front seat and an Unhindered view of the Lord’s coming in the clouds.
We already have some others wanting to sit together by the seashore. Since the idea is inclusive, it is on the basis of first come first serve. Please let me know if you would like to join us so we can add your name to our ever-increasing prayer list.
There was a time when George Mueller from Bristol England was praying for bread to feed his orphanage. It was early in the morning when a man was passing by behind the walls and heard Muller praying.
This man was not a believer yet he went to the bakery and bought a big bag of bread and threw it over the wall right in the front of George Muller who was still praying.
Miller did not waste a heartbeat to thank the Lord for the bread when the men abruptly interrupted. “It wasn’t God who brought the bread, it was me you fanatic man.” George Mueller proceeded, “I thank you Lord anyway even though the devil brought the bread.”
In the same way, we must not be distracted with the first and last names of the pandemic, such as the Spanish flu or German measles or Chinese virus because in a world where God is sovereign he can use even the devil to accomplish his sovereign will.
Pray with Simeon and me, not just for healing not even only a revival as great as these are but pray for his kingdom to come and his will be done finally as it is in heaven.”
Pray with the little children and in childlikeness. Pray!
This was a toddler of Jesus on duty.
