Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Bear with me please. A must read if I can
say so. “Worthiness.” Long before the crack of dawn a false alarm on my back
door woke me up only to reset it and make the appointment with ADT to
come and fix the problem today [3/5/19] between 12 and 5 pm. Breathless from running around between my bed and the door and
the alarm and the phone dragging my left foot like Robocop due to my stroke I
sat down at the edge of my bed to calm down by reading the portion of scripture
for today in the app of my smart phone and as you can see it in your phone this
was the verse of the day. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my
voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they
with me.” Revelation 3:20. I don’t know about you but I do not believe in coincidence, so I
am taking seriously the reading of Revelation 3, 4 and 5. In the whole Universe a question was asked and a person of worth
was searched to open the seven seals and none was found. This vision made John the apostle of Jesus wept bitterly. Some how I found myself weeping along with John at the state of
the union of our family, our church, our country and our world. On the Island of Patmos an old man, alone with no one to process
his thoughts and experiences is allowed at the end of his life dreams and
visions that makes him weep in the frustration of old age, loneliness, the lack
of youth a vigor and perhaps health issues and approaching imminent death yet
entrusted by God with insights of Revelation. What does John do? John just uses his pen to memorialize in the hope that some one in
the future might read it and fear God and put their trust in Jesus. To my comfort and that of John, Jesus was found the only one
worthy to open the seals and I also decided to write you to urge you and myself
to find Jesus today as the only one worthy and praise him with our lives and
prepare to praise his worthiness throughout eternity. (Just now I was interrupted again by the alarm system only to reschedule
the technician’s visit between 8 and 12 am.) Not satisfied with my food for thought I decided to go to my
Morning and Evening reading by Charles H. Spurgeon. Lo and behold another timely instruction for me and for you today
“not to sleep.” Morning, March 5 “Let us not sleep, as do
others. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 There are many ways of promoting Christian wakefulness. Among the
rest, let me strongly advise Christians to converse together concerning the
ways of the Lord. Christian and Hopeful, as they journeyed towards the
Celestial City, said to themselves, “To prevent
drowsiness in this place, let us fall into good discourse.” Christian enquired,
“Brother, where shall we begin?” And Hopeful answered, “Where God began with
us.” Then Christian sang this song— Christians who isolate themselves and walk alone,
are very liable to grow drowsy. Hold Christian company, and you will be kept wakeful by it,
and refreshed and encouraged to make quicker progress in the road to
heaven. But as you thus take “sweet counsel” with others in the ways of
God, take care that the theme of your converse is the Lord Jesus. Let the eye
of faith be constantly looking unto him; let your heart be full of him; let
your lips speak of his worth. Friend, live near to the cross, and thou wilt not sleep. Labor
to impress thyself with a deep sense of the value of the place to
which thou art going. If thou rememberest
that thou art going to heaven, thou wilt not sleep on the road. If thou thinkest that hell is behind thee, and the devil pursuing
thee, thou wilt not loiter. Would the manslayer sleep with the avenger of blood behind him,
and the city of refuge before him? Christian, wilt thou sleep whilst the pearly gates are
open—the songs of angels waiting for thee to join them—a crown of
gold ready for thy brow? Ah! no; in holy fellowship
continue to watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation. (Another alarm sounded at my door). How can I keep silent when a third alarm sounds again and convicts
me of not going back to bed, so I am sending you this message with the emphasis
on the following next fragment. “But as you thus take “sweet counsel” with others in the ways of
God, take care that the theme of your converse is the Lord Jesus. Let the eye
of faith be constantly looking unto him; let your heart be full of him; let your
lips speak of his worth.” Wow and double WOW. Just as I choose to write about Jesus’ Worthiness, I find John the
Apostle write about the same subject and John Bunyan wrote about the same
thing, and so did Charles H Spurgeon. All I can say is, “ We are in good company if today we think in
nothing but in the worthiness of Jesus.” As the dawn has arrived I send this to you in haste without proof
reading and spell check seeking to feed you on time. Blessings. Gerry Gutierrez.
