Midweek Snack, "Coming up!"

“The Wisdom of God.”

To those who thirst for miracles like addicts crave for drugs, Jesus is willing to give them only one “sure shot” with what he calls the “Sign of Jonah the prophet.”

If the cross, death and resurrection of Jesus as signs from God does not “Fix you up,” then nothing will.

As Charles Spurgeon says:
“Thus Calvary yields us comfort rare and rich. We never should have known Christ’s love in all its heights and depths if he had not died; nor could we guess the Father’s deep affection if he had not given his Son to die.

The common mercies we enjoy all sing of love, just as the sea-shell, when we put it to our ears, whispers of the deep sea whence it came; but if we desire to hear the ocean itself, we must not look at every-day blessings, but at the transactions of the crucifixion. He who would know love let him retire to Calvary and see the Man of sorrows die.”

As a retired missionary waiting the soon to arrive Easter I thought this might be our last Easter before Jesus returns in his glorious second coming.

The love of God is not to be discovered in heaven but uncovered on earth in order to close our eyes willfully and willingly in peace having lost all taste for earth as Simeon who was blessed by the sight of the glory and the love of God in baby boy Jesus at the temple.

“Now let thy servant go in peace because my eyes have seen your salvation.”

Jesus has been revealed in the light of midnight and the darkness of noonday for our sake. If the toddler of Bethlehem has conquered your heart, the man of sorrows on the cross of Calvary will persuade you to desire death as gain.

Let us celebrate Easter as the victory of Jesus on our behalf.
Let the cross of Jesus remain in our hearts and minds as the “Wisdom of God unto salvation.”

This was your Waiter on duty with Food for Thought.

PS. I miss my Ruthie but Easter is coming and Jesus will soon returned.
