Gerry Gutierrez' Update
Sunday Breakfast in bed for you my friend. ‟The Gospel of God in a picture”. There is a little bookmarker with a picture of a little
girl holding in her hands the pierced hand of Jesus and asking Him, “What happen to your hands?” The most impressive part of the picture is the face of the little
girl. It is so expressive that words are not necessary to guess
what the question is. Dearly beloved I know from first hand experience that there is a
world out there that wants to know “What
happen to the hands of Jesus?” I know this for a fact because I was one who did not know the
reason Jesus had pierced hands. But today I stand before you as one who knows what happen to the
hands of Jesus. Apparently it was caused by the Roman
Soldier who executed Jesus by crucifixion along with two common criminals
two thousand years ago. Nothing unusual in being killed by crucifixion in those
times. The only difference between the crucifixion and death of
Jesus and any other criminal in history is this: Everyone who was crucified
was dead and buried just like Jesus, however no one but Jesus is able to
show their pierced hands to those who do not believe in the resurrection from
the dead. When you have seen a man dying by crucifixion and later you see
him walking around for forty days and forty nights showing his wounds; you
have to ask yourself the question, “Did he really
died or just pass out and later wake up?” That is just part of a story that requires
the rest of the story. The rest of the story is that what happen to Jesus on the
cross is the love and the wisdom of God and unless you understand it and
receive it, you are no different than any pagan in the remotest corners of
the earth. Therefore, as an adult, I talk to you as to an adult about
the side wound of Jesus that was pierced deep by the spear of a professional killer. Prepare to handle the truth if you are a real man. Jesus truly died while on the cross and as in a shot of Grace
he was “Over killed” by the spear of an expert executioner, a Roman soldier,
and thrust into his already dead body. There is more if you can handle it. “The water and the blood are witnesses of Jesus.” What the water of the law cannot purify the blood of Jesus can. “Life is in the blood.” What
the blood does in the body with the help of the heart and the liver is to keep
the body free from dead cells by replacing them with living
cells, thus constantly renewing a decaying body. While the water of the law might wash off some of the
impurities like a repairman, the blood comes as the renewer to replace the old and dead cells
with the new and living cells. Eat the solid food of Jesus and his blood, my beloved friend, and stop drinking the water of the rudimentary precepts and laws and regulations. Let us grow together by feasting in Jesus and his wounds, for by
his wounds we are healed from the sickness of ignorance and the evil of
legalism and empty religion without the supernatural. We are to be able to see in the wounds of Jesus the love of God
and God himself. Apart from Jesus we will never know or see God. What happened to Jesus’ hands? What happened to Jesus’ side? It is our business to not only know enough to comfort
ourselves personally but for us to comfort others with the comfort with which
we have been comforted. Remember the Ethiopian Eunuch who cried out from the depths of his
heart? When Phillip was asked if he understood what he was reading, he
responded, “How can I understand unless someone explains it to me? How can they? Unless we, who know what happened to the hands,
feet and side of Jesus explain to them about God and his love and grace? Phillip, explained Jesus to the Ethiopian Eunuch beginning in that
very passage about the wound of Jesus in Isaiah 53. The gospel is not a concept to be explained until the
listener masters it in turn and repeat it back
to me. No. The gospel is a person
to be known introduced and received and that person is Jesus, God the Son. “By his wound we are healed”. A healed man by the love, grace and wisdom
of God. Gerry Gutierrez. PS. Try talking about the wounds of Jesus, to a little kids and see how the “Ouchy’s” of Jesus communicate to the toddlers
and to the toddler within the adult.
