Gerry Gutierrez' Update

A midweek delicacy for you whom I greet.

The Secret to perfection.

Perfection demand to do more than others. Jesus said: “If you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others.”

Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5: 47- 48

Love starts with the greeting. A greeting is an acknowledgement of existence. A proper greeting is preceded by eye contact and a fast mental transaction between the greeting and eye contact that reveals what the person is in it’s inner core. Your peripheral vision is something you have no control but it is like a spy that’s scouts the land or scans your surroundings.

The signal sent to the brain by the peripheral vision will trigger a decision and your mind either to ignore what you have already registered or turn your eyes to greet or even better to turn your head in deference and give signals a pleasure or indifference with your body language.

If your are first to greet, then you may be on your way to be perfect like your Father in heaven is perfect who does not only let his rain fall over the just and the unjust but he loves and he loves first when we were yet sinners. If you greet first regardless of your feelings, then you will be doing more than others do. If you are greeted first, you are to greet back and that even pagans do. How are you different from the rest to the point of being known as the sons of God? God loves and loves first when we were yet sinners.

To expend yourself in a greeting is a sign of vision, faith and a noble character or a sign of hypocrisy. The content of your greeting to others is the self-disclosure of the content of what is abundant in your heart. “From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”

Let me not even mention what silent treatment does in its verbal, written or body language forms, it is the expression of what kind of spirit governs our lives. I will not address at this time of how silence reveals the poverty of those who greet and are nice only to those who are nice to them. “Members of the club of us four and no more?.

Jesus did not come to have nice people being nice only to nice people. Jesus wants nice people to be nice to those who in their minds are not nice or in fact are not nice. How are we doing more than others in our way to be like our perfect heavenly Father?

Once a man asked a question to a large meeting during the National Prayer Breakfast sensing that many dislike the sitting President. “Dear brothers, do you pray for those you love? I am sure you do. But what about those who you do not love? You are supposed to pray for them twice harder.”

A skunk tolerates another a skunk, that’s not a virtue among them, but for a white pedigree poodle dog “to tolerate a skunk”? That is a virtue. It’s so easy to hate, it takes no effort to dislike others. The hardest thing is to love, as God requires you to love. It takes the given up of self. In fact it’s not natural to love, it is not only hard but also impossible to truly love in our own strength. I dare say that true love is inconceivable unless God who is love is in our hearts to love through us and in spite of us and might be because of us.

By greeting others we are telling people what kind of material we are made and at the same time we are testifying whether we belong to God or not. Jesus requires from us to do more than others do to be different from the pagan world.

In the way to God likeness perfection we starts by greeting in whole heart acknowledgment of the existence of others and our remembrance of him after the example of Jesus who has given us the little flower named “Forget me not” we celebrate every time we greet Jesus in the communion table.

To treat with silence others as already dead is sad. To say the least the lack of greeting is killing the one you ignore. It is not natural to greet in love to those we dislike. It is difficult to love the unlovable. Jesus did not call us to live naturally. Jesus has called us to live supernatural lives in the most natural way. If you want to be perfect, start by greeting in love, that is if you want to be perfect like your heavenly Father is perfect. Now you know the Secret toward perfection. Blessing to you whom I greet in the Love of Jesus.
