Gerry Gutierrez' Update
"Prophecy above Good Works." Matthew 4:12-17. June 12-2017 Georgia
In
our own tendency of being more like a vulture than a hummingbird when we fly
over beautiful flowers, we ignore the flowers but we noticed a dead rabbit
among the flowers and go after it with mouth watering appetite. In the same way
we tend to react to the actions of Jesus who after learning that John has been
put in prison, he returned to Galilee. ÒLeaving Nazareth, he went and lived in
CapernaumÓ. Some how we tend to think that Jesus came into this world to
win social warfare. NOT! The
vulture within us asks: What
about John Lord? What
about visiting the prisoners? What
about justice to the oppressed? What
about freedom and liberty? What
about human rights? What
about wrongful imprisonments? What
about law and order? What
about ÒprophetÕs lives matterÓ? What
about fair trial? What
about our day on Court? *In
red letters Jesus seem to say: "What
about it Son?" "What
makes you thing that John is without a visitor?Ó ÒWhat
makes you think that John will be denied of justice?Ó ÒWhat
makes you think of John as a man without freedom?Ó ÒHave
you ever seen a man with more freedom than John?Ó ÒHave
you seen John resisting arrest? ÒWhat
makes you think that John will not have his day in court alone with Herod? "Could
it be that you are near sighted?Ó ÒCan
you not see the big picture of the will of God in prophecy? ÒDoes
life make sense apart from prophecy and predestination? *
You task in life is to be in alignment with God and his will. For
a vulture with Eagles eyes, and great vision, you sure are a disappointment! Why
don't you learn from the hummingbird that flies in the Rocky Mountains and
ignores all the ugliness of the landscape? Why do you fail to notice among the
rock and the thorny cactuses the little flower of Prophecy and go at it to feed
on it delicious nectar? It
is natural to think in the contrast of John and JesusÕ fate "at that
time". While John goes to jail, Jesus is moving to a new neighborhood with
a lake view with plenty of fish and clean air, where the rich and famous live,
like Zebulon Gates and Naphtali Rockefeller. Let
me tell you son in capital letters. "I AM IN THIS WORLD TO DO THE WILL OF
GOD REVEALED IN PROPHECY. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT YOU AND YOUR WILL AND TIMING"
TI IS ALL ABOUT PROPHECY AND IT MUST BE FULFILL REGARDLESS OF HOW IT MUST
APPEARED AT THE PRESENT TIME" Thus
Jesus went to live in Capernaum, to fulfill what was said though the prophet
Isaiah. In Galilee of the Gentiles- among people living in darkness a light has
dawned. From
that time on, Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is
near". Yes
Lord, but John is still in Jail and you are not going to do anything about it? OK.
Here you have it! When the light of the Sun dawns on the morning over the
mountains to deep valleys of shadows, isnÕt proper to turn off the man made
light whether a lamp, a candle, or electric light? Indeed you all will agree on
the wisdom of turning off any other artificial light as unnecessary. In
the same way John was only a forerunner in front of Jesus and John himself said
by word and deed that: ÒHe was not the light, but even if he had light, his
light was like the light of the Moon which is the reflection of the Sun only.
In John's case, his light was only a reflection of the light of Jesus the Son
of God. John admitted the imperative need for him to decrease and of Jesus to
increase to noonday splendor. I
dare to say that for John to be in Jail was a necessary evil. Not only John had
completed his mission in life, but also because he would become a competing
force or to say the least a distracting presence. What
about John? As frontrunner he was fellowshipping with JesusÕ
"Suffering", who later would suffer even more at the hands of sinful
men. John
was just fine, protected from himself in jail, less he and his strong wiliness
may lead him to temptation. Remember that we have evidences of John the
beautiful "hot head man of God" refused to baptize Jesus, until Jesus
gave him a direct order by just remanding him that "prophecy must be
fulfilled" regardless of how it look like "at the present
time". Prophecy is still above good works. We
are just hummingbird of Jesus, feeding in the nectar of the Sovereignty of God. Gerry Gutierrez
