Gerry & Ruth Gutierrez' Prayer Letter & Update
My memory takes me back to my elementary school years. During PE, before we ran the 100-meter dash, everyone chanted: “Primero marinero.” (First a marine). It was ok to be first place “A marine”. Everyone wanted to be second place. “King of the world”. But no one wanted to be third place! “A potty cleaner?” In my case it is not by speed or effort, but by the will of God, I have become that which I have hated since childhood. “A Vaciniquero” (Potty cleaner). I say this publically, knowing that my Latin friends of childhood when they find out what I am doing, they will laugh at me until they split their “gizzards.” I’m willing an eager to remain in this "noble" occupation as long as it takes, but with a secret desire of the Divine Intervention to heal my Ruthie in an act of revenge, to just silence the laughter of my “Macho Latin friends” and at the same time, putting the biggest smile ever on my face. I would do that if I were God. Then I would laugh at them.
