Gerry & Ruth Gutierrez' Prayer Letter & Update
Ruthie is almost 007 [i.e. James Bond] The words “I love you” are becoming like the dollar in Peru “Constantly Devaluating”. Our family is to empower these words. From now on Ruthie has the right to be cranky, sweetly nasty, a benevolent dictator, her wishes are our command, she can sleep as long as she can or want, eat whatever and whenever she wants. She can wear around her waist her cell phone, her I pod, a remote control, a whistle, a bell, and even a gong if she wants to. She can have a massage on demand. She can be fed Chilean grapes while she lays on the sofa with the celling fan just at the right speed. I will sing and dance if her Majesty so desires. The only license she does not have is “The license to kill”. Let Sean Connery keep that license. So let it be written and so let it be done. Thus speaks Gerry Gutierrez II. At the end of her first day as Queen, Ruthie said (at the end of her evening massage) “THIS WAS A GOOD DAY.” The last thing I saw in her face was a closed eye and a smile that lasted a little longer than usual. I wish I could claim credit for that “GOOD DAY” but I can’t. The idea came from my brother in law Mike Clark from London who is a man of few words and his advice is even with fewer words. “LOVE CURES” (He said) What a loaded statement! I believe that people that are loved thrive to live. People that love are better people because they are never more like God than when they love in spite of any and everything. “GOD IS LOVE” Even the Beatles expressed the effects of love: ”SHE LOVES ME YEA! YEA! YEA!” Please do not read me wrong. When Russians get depressed; they drink Vodka and use humor. “When life gives you lemons: Make lemonade”.We are just where God want us to be. After our visit to our oncologist on Monday we learn that the treatment is not working and we are starting with the awful Chemotherapy that Ruthie hates. But this cancer is nasty and it is in the fourth stage and it is here to stay. If you notice a change of mood is because we are in a fighting mood focusing on Ruthie and are being brave because of your prayers and letters have created a S.U.C.T. (Code words for Soft Ultimate Cushion Top) between us and the hard soil of reality. We intend to enjoy it as long as it lasts. Please keep praying with a smile. Keep holding our hands. As some have said: “I will be sad tomorrow, not today”. In Jesus the caregiver. In Jesus the healer. In Jesus the intercessor. We will keep our mouth open wide so he can fill it with blessings galore. May it be healing and life, for it is good and necessary to receive that even in the Sabbath. Thanking you from the heart for your heart felt feedback.
